When I was a kid, I was always searching up ways to make money online for free. With no recurring income from a job or an allowance, but with a dream of getting rich online, I finally landed upon Swagbucks. In the beginning, earning money from Swagbucks was very slow. I actually never cashed out despite starting so early until now.
It wasn’t that Swagbucks was a scam, it’s actually the most legit out of all the survey and point systems I’ve used, I just never put in any real work with the site.
After gaining plenty of experience from Swagbucks, it’s time for me to share some ways on how to make money with Swagbucks!
What Is Swagbucks? Free And Legit Rewards System
Let’s go into a little more about Swagbucks.
Swagbucks is a free and real website where you can earn points in the form of Swagbucks (SB) and cash out for various rewards such as Amazon gift cards, Paypal cash, and other gifts. One SB is worth 1 cent meaning you’ll need 2,500 SB to cash out $25 USD on Paypal.
In fact, Swagbucks claims that it has already given out $372,459,054 USD at the time of writing this post!
Rest assured, cashing out is entirely legitimate having cashed out myself before. If you understand their business system, it also makes it very easy to understand how Swagbucks can remain profitable while giving you money.
Swagbucks, as a company earns money from direct advertising sales and affiliate commissions.
By doing some of the activities on Swagbucks, you get some SB that is drawn as a percentage of how much Swagbucks gets paid.
For example, on Swagbucks, you can earn SB from shopping at Amazon. Swagbucks will give you at least 1% cashback on your purchases if you activate their “bonus.”
By activating their bonus, you are actually redirected on Amazon to their affiliate link. With that link, Swagbucks will earn 1-10% commission depending on what you buy at no extra cost to you.
So let’s say that Swagbucks earns 4% commission off of a $100 product that you purchase using their bonus. Swagbucks initially gets $4, but it will get split up because of the cashback they have to give to you.
At 1% cashback, you will get $1 worth of SB which means Swagbucks will only take $3 in profit.
If there are millions of users using Swagbucks in this way, it doesn’t take much for Swagbucks to make big profits while giving money away. It’s quite an interesting business system.
It’s not just about Amazon or shopping, Swagbucks is actually a considerable platform encompassing many different elements including surveys, apps, watching videos, social media, and many more niche elements that can be fun to play with.
In fact, in the next section, I will go through almost every single way you can earn money on Swagbucks.
Ways You Can Make Money On Swagbucks
When I started out, Swagbucks was no more than just a survey site. These surveys often have rewards ranging from 1 SB to 1,000 SB (1 cent to 10 dollars).
I would click on one of the surveys, fill it out entirely, and then it will reward me.
The problem was that most of the time, I didn’t qualify for the survey so I would end up answering a few questions and wasting my time.
Fortunately, Swagbucks gives a small reward of 3 SB for your time anyways.
But there was one time where I was able to get a big reward by taking a survey whose reward was 400 SB in an event where Swagbucks doubled all the rewards earned from surveys (they always have different interactive activities to keep users engaged on the site).
However, don’t fall back thinking that every survey will give out a nice reward, it’s often hit or miss. Luckily, there are other more stable ways to earn with Swagbucks that I will talk more about.
One guaranteed way to easily earn money with Swagbucks through surveys, though, is the daily poll.
Every day Swagbucks has a question for all the users to answer. It’s usually something like, “What’s your favorite ice-cream or movie.” It takes about a second to answer, and it will give you 1 SB, which is 1 cent.
Not a lot, but it’s free money.
I talked a lot about this in the above example with Amazon. Swagbucks isn’t just limited to Amazon, though, there are plenty of other shops that you can earn from such as:
- The Home Depot
- Best Buy
- Indigo Books & Music
- Sport Chek
- Canadian Tire
- Old Navy
- Hudson’s Bay
- MANY MORE…
There are genuinely lots of shops you can earn SB from. The shops listed above are only a small portion of them.
While you can’t make money for free shopping like you can with surveys and some of the other offers, using Swagbucks when shopping is a great idea.
The cool part is that when stores have their own deals and sales, you can still use Swagbucks to save money.
Let’s say Razer is discounting their laptops by 20%. You can make use of that deal, plus apply the Swagbucks bonus, and you’ll be saving hundreds of dollars off of one purchase!
It may seem small with each individual purchase only amounting to a few dollars, but over time, you can build up a savings account for that house, retirement, or whatever you’re saving for!
If you’re an avid online shopper, using Swagbucks can save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars every month!
Installing The Swagbutton
So we learned that you can save lots of money via shopping using Swagbucks, but we also identified that many stores are not even listed down. How do we solve that problem?
By using the Swagbutton.
The Swagbutton is a Google Chrome extension that has lots of various functionalities.
One of the most essential functionalities it has is that it automatically detects if you can save money using Swagbucks on any website.
If it detects that you can get cash back on a particular site, it will notify you, and as such, you can click the activate button, and it will allow you to save money should you purchase anything.
In fact, I was actually able to save 10% off of a data science course that I was taking on Coursera recently because the Swagbutton notified me of the bonus.
Apart from shopping, installing the Swagbutton automatically gives a pretty massive SB bonus. It will notify you at the beginning of getting Swagbucks to install the Swagbutton.
The bonus can range anywhere between $1 to $5. It’s free money!
Installing Apps, Signing Up For Various Services, Playing Games
Swagbucks also has many other different activities for you to earn lots. Installing apps, playing games, and signing up for various services definitely have the highest upfront payout.
But many of these activities also have drawbacks, and I would only recommend them if you actually use the app or service.
For example, the games. Just recently, I downloaded two mobile games. Rise of Kingdoms and Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire. These games have very high cash-out rates at $10 and $7 respectively, and the games are entirely free to download and play.
The only problem was that I had to reach certain levels in both games. With the Rise of Kingdoms game, I have to reach level 16 to cash out. That’ll take at least a few months without spending any money in-game to speed things up!
Same thing with the casino and gambling offers. Many of these give extremely high payouts at $25. The problem with these ones is that you have to make a deposit of around $5-20 to get the reward.
If you do the math, you will actually profit off of doing this, but I only recommend it if you actually intend to use the app or service. Otherwise, it gets challenging to keep track of.
It’s also important to note that some of these apps and services can only be redeemed once. So you cannot repeatedly delete and download services to try and get Swagbucks.
There are plenty of things that you could use Swagbucks to get some side cash from, though, and many of them you might use in your daily lives. Here are some examples:
- Chefs Plate
- Uber Eats
- World War Rising
- MANY MORE
Another thing I want to note is that offers can vary from different places. Since I live in Canada, Swagbucks has focused offers around Canadian businesses that I might use, such as Scotiabank and Borrowell.
Depending on where you live, your offers could be completely different.
As a kid, I was always enticed by offers that talk about ways to make money without any effort. For example, surveys, watching videos, or just doing nothing at all.
Well, now you can! But it isn’t what you’re thinking about.
Watching videos on Swagbucks can earn you money, but virtually nothing. The electricity you use to watch the videos is probably more expensive than what you can make.
In my offers list, I would need to watch at least 20 videos which is about 20 minutes just to get 1 cent and 40 videos to get 2 cents. It does vary, though.
Plus, you don’t get any SB watching just anything. You have to watch specific videos that Swagbucks provides, and often, these videos are outdated and uninteresting.
You can’t just leave the videos running in the background either. Swagbucks will check for inactivity every couple of videos or so, depending on the offer, which means you’ll have to check back to see if everything is okay continually.
The way Swagbucks makes money off of you watching videos is through advertisements. Advertisers pay Swagbucks to have their ads be shown, and you get a small percentage of what the advertisers paid.
Really not worth it in my opinion. There’s so much more you can do with your time than watching Swagbucks videos.
Searching The Web
This one is one of the methods I like a little more. It’s completely passive.
You can earn Swagbucks randomly when you search the web. The reward has quite an extensive range for how much you can make and is inconsistent as to when it appears. Sometimes I get 3 cents for searching the web, sometimes I get 41 cents, but most of the time, I get nothing at all.
Although rewards will appear more frequently and at higher amounts when you search more, don’t expect consistent payouts for searching. Just leave it and take the rewards when it comes.
The main downside to searching is that you have to get the Swagbucks search engine which is powered by Yahoo.
Having used the Swagbucks search engine many times before as well as the Google search engine, I can tell you that the Google search engine provides vastly superior results.
You will often miss websites that have a lot of value when searching with Swagbucks, and for Google users, it can be a huge downside. Plus, the search engine’s interface itself is a lot less clean and can often be overwhelming for Google users.
Swagbucks Bonuses And Games
Among all the offers, Swagbucks itself has provided some ways to earn more SB. There is a daily To-Do List that if completed, you will receive bonus SB as well as Daily Goals which if you reach the goal set out by Swagbucks, you will earn bonus SB.
Those two ways are great if you intend to spend lots of time on Swagbucks. Free money for work you are already doing!
Swagbucks also has occasional promotions such as giveaways, Bingo (called Swago), and trivia games where you can earn SB if you answer all the questions correctly.
These games can often be fun but don’t rely on them for a consistent way of earning SB.
With so many members out there, doing a giveaway is like playing the lottery. The Bingo game isn’t much better with many activities on the board requiring you to cash out or pay money of some sort. Trivia is also difficult. You never know what questions they give you.
That being said, there is a more reliable way to earn SB from Swagbucks for free. For this method, you do have to install the Swagbutton, but as said above, it is entirely free.
The Swagbutton will notify you once every day about a Swagcode that you can enter to get some SB.
It will tell you to go to a page whether it is Swagbuck’s social media or its own website and you should see a message saying something along the lines of, “Enter XXXX before 2 P.M. to earn 3 SB!” with X being the Swagcode.
Copy the Swagcode and open up your Swagbutton. Then under the Swagcode menu, paste the Swagcode into the box and click redeem SB.
Earning SB from this method has been pretty consistent. It only takes me a few seconds, and I receive a free 3 cents effortlessly every day. It’s small, but it adds up over time.
This is probably the most profitable method on Swagbucks. And to be honest with you, the reason I’m writing this post is in hopes that you learn a new way to earn/save money online and will sign-up using my link.
You see the link that says “Sign-Up At Swagbucks And Get A $3.00 Bonus Here!”?
When you click that link and sign-up, both you and I will get $3.00 in SB if you earn $3.00 in SB within your first 30 days. Then if you continuously use Swagbucks, I will get 10% of your earnings (at no extra cost to you) for the life of your account.
At least, that’s the current offer right now. Occasionally it changes. Sometimes it’s 500 SB, sometimes it’s only 100 SB. Generally, the earlier you start, the better.
Once you sign-up or if you already have Swagbucks, you can do the exact same thing that I am doing. You can refer others via a referral link that Swagbucks gives you and earn the bonus SB as well.
I will talk about some more details on how to earn more from referring people.
The Top Methods I Recommend
There are hundreds of ways to earn money from Swagbucks, but I only recommend a few of them. Here are the top methods you should use to earn SB:
1. Daily Poll
It’s only 1 SB which is only 1 cent. But you’re answering a question that takes only a second. It only happens once a day, and you can do it from anywhere with an internet connection. Free money!
2. Install The Swagbutton
When you’re starting out, installing the Swagbutton will give a nice boost to your SB balance.
But it goes further than that, the Swagbutton will be extremely useful and often required for other methods that I recommend.
If you’re on your computer all the time, having the Swagbutton there will automatically notify you if there are any Swagcodes you can enter to earn some SB. Again, you won’t make a lot, but it’s a copy-paste activity that only happens once a day and only takes a few seconds.
Don’t actively go out and buy things to earn SB. You’ll be in the negatives doing that. But whenever you are buying something, think about Swagbucks. Could I save some money on this site?
With the Swagbutton, it will notify you automatically, and all you have to do is click a button.
Easy way to save money!
5. Installing Apps And Services, But…
Only when you actually use the apps or play games or etc. If you do things just for the SB, things are going to get very cluttered.
You’ll have so many apps and subscriptions notifying you, and you won’t be able to get anything done when that happens!
Don’t install both DoorDash and UberEats just so you could get SB. Unless you have a real reason to have two apps that virtually do the same thing, you should only choose one of them when you actually need it.
It’s like shopping. Don’t install apps and subscribe to things for SB. Instead, whenever you’re about to install something, think if you can earn some extra money and kill two birds with one stone with Swagbucks.
6. Searching The Web
Entirely up to you, but if the Swagbucks search engine doesn’t bother you much, this is a great way to get some easy SB. Again like everything else, don’t actively search on Swagbucks to earn SB, do it organically. SB will come much easier when you are searching only when you actually need to.
7. Refer Others To Use Swagbucks
This one is somewhat different, and there are ways to go about this that can either ruin your reputation or help lots of people out. Once again, I will talk a little more about referring people to Swagbucks, but in general, refer people only if Swagbucks can help them out. Otherwise, you look like a scammer.
These 7 things are my personal best ways to earn money from Swagbucks. There are other things you could play around with and things that depend on who you are.
Play around and see what you like. For everyone, different things help them earn more SB and money!
Tips And Tricks To Amplify Earnings
Over the few years of using Swagbucks, there are a few tips and tricks I learned that helped me earn more SB much more efficiently than before. I want to share them with you in hopes that you can make and save more money as well.
1. Taking A Passive Approach
This piece of advice will sound rather ironic. With this post titled, “How To Make Money With Swagbucks,” you would think that I am telling you to use Swagbucks to earn money actively.
The truth is, you will earn more when you stop thinking about Swagbucks as a money-making system.
Weird right? When you stop actively trying to make money with Swagbucks, you will earn more in the end. By switching my mentality to one that uses Swagbucks whenever it’s convenient, I was able to get my first $25 cash out within months.
From my experience, when you actively leave your computer on for hours watching videos or trying to take as many surveys as possible, you become frustrated and overworked and end up being inactive for months before trying again.
It’s just not worth your time trying to earn as much as possible using Swagbucks.
You will earn more from a part-time minimum wage job than trying to take surveys and watch videos for a full-time living.
I spread this idea throughout all of my recommendations on using Swagbucks. Shop and save only when you can, install the apps and services only if it actually helps you, and take part in activities that don’t require hours of work.
I am contradicting myself a little bit when I talk about consistency. Right after talking about trying to spend minimal time and effort to earn extra side cash, I start talking about building habits to use Swagbucks daily.
You want to combine both ideas together. Make Swagbucks like brushing your teeth. You should be doing it every day, but you shouldn’t be spending hours on it.
Doing things such as entering the daily Swagcode, doing the daily poll, and perhaps taking just one survey will help you earn more. Don’t spend more than 30 minutes doing this, though!
It really isn’t much, but when do you get paid for doing something that takes the same amount of time as brushing your teeth?
3. Do The Easy Stuff But Don’t Rely On It
In the beginning, you will be prompted with many things such as email verification, account naming, and entering some personal information such as gender and you will get paid for it.
They pay a few dollars for these things, and it gives you something which I like to call a beginner’s boost.
You suddenly get a few dollars within a few minutes, and you start to think, I can earn this much all the time. However, after the initial account set-up, it’s challenging to continue to reach that daily goal.
So don’t raise your expectations too much in the beginning. Otherwise, you’ll start feeling down when you can’t earn as much as you thought you can and end up becoming inactive.
Just stay consistent and take on the passive approach. That being said, you should still do the account set-up, you might have to anyways if you want the $3 bonus.
Specific Advice For Referring Friends For Maximum Earnings
There are a few ways to get SB recurringly consistently. The daily poll, Swagcodes, shopping, searching with the Swagbucks search engine, surveys, videos, and referring friends. Most of the other offers will be gone after you complete them and you cannot do them again.
Referring friends will have the highest recurring income if you do it right. The initial earning from referring a friend is high at $3 or more depending on what offers are going on, and you will continue to receive 10% of whatever they earn at no extra cost to them.
Theoretically, you could make a full-time income by just referring people to Swagbucks. You need to get 1,000 people into Swagbucks every month to earn $3,000 per month, and if they all are active members, you could receive 10% of what they earn for their entire lifetime meaning that you can probably bank an extra few hundred dollars every month passively as well.
But that’s theoretically. It’s pretty much impossible to earn that much money practically.
There are two problems. First, getting the people to join Swagbucks, and two, getting them to stay active. But there are ways to refer more people to Swagbucks and earn a little more side cash.
$3,000 per month might be impossible, but $1,000 a month is reachable. Here are some tips to help you get more people to Swagbucks:
1. Market Swagbucks Differently Depending On Your Audience
You may be reading this as someone who has never built a business online or anywhere, and that’s okay. Words such as market and audience might sound complicated, but don’t worry, I will simplify it.
When you start out, there aren’t many places to send out your Swagbucks referral link except for your personal social media profiles and directly to your friends and family.
And there’s a massive problem if you send your link to them and tell them that it is a way to earn money online. Making money online is still in its ‘early stages,’ and many people don’t always trust sites that talk about ways to earn money online.
Among the older generations, there is still a stigma about the legitimacy of online products despite success from the e-commerce industry and new success stories popping out everywhere.
That’s why to keep your reputations from going down the drain and sounding like a scammer among your friends, you want to send your link as a way to save money only if you think your friends or family are actually interested.
Again, take the passive approach with this. Don’t try to force people to use Swagbucks. You’d be surprised how many people don’t want to save or earn money.
If you are interested in how to build online businesses and use Swagbucks to help other people, continue reading as I will share some more ideas and tips.
2. Creating Value And Getting People To Use Swagbucks
If you’re a business owner, you should understand this. Without providing value to your audience, no one is going to buy from you. The same goes for Swagbucks.
Whether it’s towards your friends or family, or you are a business trying to get people to use Swagbucks, you have to build relationships and offer as much value as you can.
People are more likely to use Swagbucks once you show them what you can do with it. By making video tutorials, blogs, or directly showing people how to use Swagbucks in person, you can get more people to actually use Swagbucks.
Basically, you have to give people a good reason to use Swagbucks. Whether it’s because you can save lots of money while shopping, earn money playing games, or get opportunities to make side cash taking surveys, you have to have some sort of reason for others to use the site.
You can’t stop there either, you have to offer people even more. So do things like taking advantage of Swagbucks’ $3 bonus for referring people just like what I’m doing in this blog post.
Some people even go one step further and create courses and Facebook groups solely on making money with Swagbucks, and it really does help not only get more people into Swagbucks but also being able to have them earn money so you can take advantage of the 10% earnings commission.
And that brings me to my third tip.
3. Starting An Actual Online Business
For those of you without an online business, and are scared of starting one, do not fret, it has been much easier and cheaper than ever before to get started online.
Before I tell you what you have to do, I want to talk about some of the reasons you should create an online business.
- Low Start-Up Cost
- Freedom To Work Anywhere In The World With Internet
- Setting Your Own Work Times
Those are some of the bonuses of working an online business. But there are downsides as well.
You will not earn a full-time income in the beginning and will often lose more money. It will take lots of hard work, in some cases, more than your full-time job to build the business. You will often feel like no progress is made and that your business will be a permanent failure.
Those feelings do occur, and I have felt them a lot. As a beginner, building an online business is just as tricky as any other business, if not more challenging with how much competition there is.
But if you can work through the entire process and eventually love the online marketing and business building, you will be successful. If you don’t have the passion, however, you will work on this as a typical full-time job.
I hope that didn’t scare you too much… but I really wanted to get the truth out.
If you think you can handle it, though, let me tell you some more about the specific business you can start and how it will incorporate Swagbucks.
What I am talking about is affiliate marketing. This is where people can click on your affiliate link, buy the product, and you will earn a certain commission of the sale. Blogging is one of the ways you can make money from affiliate marketing.
Basically, you create a blog just like this one that you’re reading, offer value to your readers usually by teaching something, create posts that contain affiliate links, and then people can click on those links and earn money!
Wealthy Affiliate is the best place to get started with blogging and affiliate marketing. It’s how I got started myself, and it really is life-changing.
To earn money from Swagbucks, you would create blogs like this one teaching others how to make money with Swagbucks or save money, and then put your referral links throughout the post just like what I did.
There are lots of different elements and factors to consider as well, and it only comes after gaining experience and learning more about online business.
I cannot tell you all the details in this one post, but if you’re interested, check out Wealthy Affiliate.
4. Spam Is A NO-NO
At one point in the online world, you could make money just from putting your referral link everywhere. But that time is gone now. People have become smarter online, more people have created legitimate businesses, and spam linking has been banned almost everywhere.
There are zero benefits to spamming. In fact, all it will lead to is a loss of reputation and being banned from multiple social media sites. Just don’t spam your link.
Instead, provide value first. Give people a reason and show them how they can benefit from signing up using your referral link. Even if you don’t have a business, helping others should be your priority, not making money.
Because once again, ironically, the money comes when you stop thinking about the money.
Following my own advice, you don’t have to sign-up at Swagbucks and save money shopping or earn extra cash. I’m not going to force you to. It’s entirely up to you.
Huge Opportunity To Make Money Online?
You won’t be able to earn a full-time income from Swagbucks unless you did the affiliate marketing method I talked about above.
